David J. Berkowitz
Attorney David Berkowitz received his undergraduate degree from Wichita State University in 1964 and his Law Degree with Distinction from the University of Kansas in 1968. He served as the Douglas County Attorney from 1972—1976.
He married his wife, Katherine, in 1980. They had two children, Bill and Jack, both of whom are Eagle Scouts. Jack is attending the University of California San Diego where he is working on a PhD. in physics. Bill is an over the road truck driver.
David has been extremely active in the community for many years. He is a past president of the Lawrence Jewish Community Congregation and presently is their Sergeant at Arms and Chair of the Budget & Fundraising Committee as well as past chair of the Douglas County Democratic Central Committee. He has been active in the local Boy Scouts and served as Communications Chair of the Pelathe district for 7.5 years. He is a past President of the Douglas County Bar Association, is a member of the Kansas—Lawrence Bar Association and has served on the Bench Bar Committee for the Douglas County District Court. He is also a member of the family law section of both the Kansas and American Bar Associations.
Mr. Berkowitz has been appointed to the faculty, continuing the legal seminars presented by the National Business Institute. In 2016 he was on the faculty of family law boot camp, in 2017 he was on the faculty of Guns, Gaming Marijuana, Opiate, and Alcoholic Beverages. He’s been approved to the faculty of two seminars in 2018, one on family law and one on legal ethics.
In his free time, David enjoys fishing, hunting, gardening, golfing and is a member of the Lawrence Country Club.
